Maldives Hotel and Trade Exhibition 2008 (MHTE) was initiated by the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce to bring Organizations in the tourism and hospitality together with international companies that cater for the hospitality industry. From its humble beginning, five years ago, it has now expanded into one of the biggest hospitality exhibitions in Asia with thousands of trade professionals drawn together from all sectors of the trade industry.
This year’s exhibition includes representations from over fifty companies from countries that are as far as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore as well as many companies from neighbouring countries (SAARC Countries), India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Maldives was crowned the Indian Oceans leading destination at the awards.
Several resorts in Maldives won the prestigious world travel awards held at Shanghai, China on 19th June 2008. Maldives was crowned the “Indian Oceans leading destination” at the awards.
In the regional categories Kurumba Island resort won the Indian oceans leading resort, Rangali Island won the Indian oceans leading hotel. Baros Island won the Indian oceans leading villas category.
In the national category Kurumba Island won the double categories of Maldives Leading Resort and Maldives Leading Resort and Spa while Adaaran Prestige Water Villas won in the Maldives Leading Water Villas category.
Maldives also won in the Leading Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport (Male International Airport) Category. Maldives Tourism Board accepted the award on behalf the Maldives tourism industry.
